Man’s body recovered at Woodlawn Lake, authorities say

Man believed to be swept away by floodwaters

SAN ANTONIO – A man’s body was recovered from Woodlawn Lake on Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police and firefighters.

San Antonio Fire Department Battalion Chief David Prado said a passerby saw the man in the water and called 911 just before 8 a.m.

SAFD’s heavy rescue team used a boat to recover his body from about four feet of water. Police said the body was recovered from an area near where water drains from Fredericksburg Road.

He was badly bruised and his clothes were shredded, Prado said.

Prado believes the man was swept away by floodwaters and ended up in the lake; however, the medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

His name and age are unknown.

Earlier this year, the body of a 61-year-old woman was recovered from Woodlawn Lake after she was swept away by heavy rain.

In that incident, the ME’s office ruled the woman’s death an accidental drowning.

This is a developing story. KSAT has a crew at the scene and will update this as we learn more.
