In an update on Tuesday, SAWS said crews repaired a 24-inch water main ruptured by a non-SAWS fiber optic drilling contractor on Friday.

The damaged main has been replaced, and crews are now laying asphalt.

The inner lane of the eastbound Highway 90 access road near Ray Ellison Boulevard is expected to open at approximately noon Wednesday, with the remaining lane opening later Thursday.

The work is connected to a water main break that happened Friday morning, causing traffic delays and affecting water flow at two nearby Southwest Independent School District campuses.

Kriewald Road and Big Country Elementary schools were without water for a portion of the day on Friday, but water was later restored.

On Saturday, SAWS said road crews had to dig more than 20 feet along U.S. Highway 90’s eastbound access road to replace the damaged water line.

In an email to KSAT on Monday morning, the spokesperson said SAWS crews “had to expand the excavation area” to make their repairs.

“Because we had to expand the hole into the access road, we are also rebuilding that according to TxDOT specs,” the statement said.

Once repairs are complete, SAWS said it will work to recover the costs of lost water and the contractor’s emergency repairs.
